A slice of 1950s America on Murray Street, Tanunda.

Barossa 50’s Diner is a genuine retro American diner in the heart of Tanunda. Here is the story of Lynda and Nick’s diner, and the website we built to match the room.

Walk through the door at Shop 3, 119 Murray Street in Tanunda and you are back in the 1950s: chrome, neon, red vinyl booths, a checkerboard floor and rock ’n’ roll on the speakers. Barossa 50’s Diner, the retro American diner in Tanunda, has been run by Lynda and Nick since they took the keys in 2018. They have redesigned the place from top to bottom since, adding more every year.

Burgers, shakes and a proper spider

The menu runs to more than 119 diner classics, and much of it is named for the cities and stars of the era: the Dallas and the Brooklyn, the Monroe Burger, the Elvis Dog and the James Dean. There are loaded fries, butterscotch thickshakes thick enough to need a spoon, and spider drinks, ice cream floating in fizzy soft drink, which plenty of visitors say took them straight back to childhood. It is walk-in only, with no bookings, and there is indoor dining and outdoor seating.

The diner doubles as a retro gift shop, too. The shelves are stacked with Elvis, Betty Boop, Marilyn Monroe and Johnny Cash memorabilia, there is a fridge of imported American drinks, and the ice creamery counter scoops cones, cups and old-fashioned sundaes.

A website with the same energy as the room

When we built the diner’s website, the aim was simple: it should feel like walking in. It is a full custom build rather than a template, with the diner’s colours and nostalgia carried through every page. The full diner menu is online so people can decide what they are having before they arrive, alongside opening hours, directions and the diner’s story.

Lynda and Nick can also update the site themselves. A self-serve admin lets them change menu items and photos without waiting on us for small edits, which matters for a busy venue. We also loaded the full menu into the diner’s Google Business Profile, so it shows up in Google Maps as well as on the site.

What the search numbers say

The local search work has paid off. Over the 28 days to 20 September 2026, the site was #1 on Google for “tanunda diner”, with an average position of 1.0 to 1.2 for “tanunda diner” and “diner tanunda”. It picked up 673 Google clicks in those same 28 days. For a walk-in venue, that is a lot of people finding the door.

Lynda was kind enough to say so publicly, too: “Highly recommend and thankyou so very much Josh for setting up our website for Barossa 50s Diner.” There is more in our earlier post, Barossa 50’s Diner recommends JB Digital Barossa.

Pull up a booth

The diner is closed on Tuesdays, except in SA school holidays when it opens seven days. Whether you are a local or driving up from Adelaide, it is worth the trip. You can see more of the build on our Barossa 50’s Diner portfolio page, and if you run a venue in the valley yourself, our Barossa website design page shows how we build for local businesses like it.
